Start a New Group: Want to start a new Community or Topic? Let us know here
Posted by Brandon on January 4, 2024 at 7:37 pmHi all, would you like a new community group or topic started that doesn’t currently exist? Let us know here and we’ll make sure it get’s started here.

Thank you for this space! Great Idea. I’ll subscribe and look for new Group Requests to get them started/support. Eventually we will have a form and some agreements for setting expectations before new Watershed Hubs or Guild Groups are created, but for Topics and Communities, perhaps any joined member can start a Discussion/Topic. At least for now while we are in beta testing what might breaks?

I would like to start the topic Regenerative Constellations if that would be ok with you?
And for the time being I would also appreciate a Telegram channel with that title. Would you be ok with that?
Fully open to a preliminary conversation. Don’t want to impose, but really seeing many benefits for the whole.
Thank you for considering!

@cascadiabrandon will chime in here, but I would discourage any new telegram group, we are shifting focus to the web site. I’m already about to explode from trying to track too many groups. Too many communities I am a part of have different platforms without clear differentiation of their purpose. With one Software I use my request for help has been ignored for 2 weeks. I’m guessing I got the wrong platform. So now I have to go figure out where on Discord to post my issue.

We are in the process of moving all conversations over here to this forum rather than Telegram and won’t be starting new Telegram threads at this time. I’ll check if the topic you are suggesting can be added here if it hasn’t already (I’m catching up after being away for a few days).

Yes. Sorry for the delay. Here is the Web3 & Tech Tools Group:

Thanks for kicking this off! I’d like to help start the group for the disaster resilience guild
-
Noted Thomas, definately noted! We will get there. When’s the next meeting?
Have you connected to @clare-strawn and the Prout people, like Doris Oliver and Ravi Logan? They created a disaster transition for Eugene in 2023.

Where would be the best place to discuss MRV (monitoring, reporting, and verification), i.e. how we determine positive ecological outcomes using science and technology? It’s not necessarily tech specific, and its separate from web3 (although distributed ledgers could be where the data is stored and attested to), and the intention would be to focus more on real world practices in the Cascadia bioregion.
If something like this interests other members, I think this would be a nice group/topic to add.
-
This is a great question. I think a topic for Monitoring and Reporting would be great.
-
Cool. No rush on setting it up. I’m still exploring a lot of the other discussions. Definitely something I would be interested in contributing to though.

I think it is time to start an Upper Columbia group with several sub community groups spaces on the website. Please be in touch to let me know next steps.
-
Hi Jan, I set up a group for that: https://regeneratecascadia.org/groups/upper-columbia/
What are the subgroups you were thinking? Is there a group of people discussing what subgroups are needed?

thanks for setting up the Upper Columbia. Is there a concern regarding needing other people to be discussing the naming the sub groups first??
-
I think this can be up to you! and in conversation with other folks starting subgroups. If we can be of any assistance, just let us know. We can nest groups under other groups – and have been trying to figure out some basic taxonomy that makes sense, but really, what’s emerged is that each place needs to really explore this for their area. It seems like location Hub / the watersheds/systems important to consider for that area – i.e. Whidbey is actually connected to Skagit, Fidalgo and the San Juans – who are connected to the Gulf Islands…. – so that will be an emerging discussion / as a part of the larger local ecoregionorsystems – i.e. Columbia River or Salish Sea – within the Cascadia bioregion

thanks Tanja. I was wanting to name the subgroups based on the river confluences where town/cities/communities have formed.
-
thanks for the further thoughts. It is tricky catch 22 thing. Do you name the region first which then draws people to see that there is something going on nested in the RC site who then get the idea of what it might belike to organize a ‘hub’ …., or, do you gather the people first then develop the focus needed to make a decision to name the area. in some ways I prefer the latter but it does take more time. I feel the names I would suggest are the common ones used in the region as I know the region well and don’t think I would be off base. So then I needed to get more understanding of where the admin team was coming from in asking the question.
-
Do you have names for subgroups that you would like me to add?
-
I am picking up this thread again. The sub group I would like to name for now is West Kootenay as it is both a tributary of the Upper Columbia and a common name of the community. However I feel that Willamette Valley also needs to sit under the larger title of Columbia River for this taxonomy to work and at present it seems to be identified as its own group .
-
I was just about to reach out to you. 🙂 Perfect – I will set that up.
-
Great, and can you raise the questions about Columbia river tributaries e.g. Willamette with the team
-
Yes. Apologies – I didn’t clarify in my answer that I will do that.
