On October 2, the 2026 Cascadia Cohort of the Design School for Regenerating Earth’s Learning Journey gathered for its closing call. The call, hosted by Emily McGill, our Community Steward, recapped and reflected on the 2026 Learning Journey, shared takeaways from the Turtle Island Bioregional Congress, and invited Learning Journey participants into the Cascadian Community of Practice. It was open to participants in the Learning Journey and to Regenerate Cascadia’s Landscape Stewards and Ambassadors throughout Cascadia. The invitation promised a heartfelt wrap and a look at what comes next.

What the Learning Journey is

Each year, Regenerate Cascadia hosts a Cascadia Cohort within the Design School for Regenerating Earth’s six-month Bioregional Learning Journey. It opens each spring, around the equinox. Together, participants build a shared language, learn the fundamentals of bioregionalism and bioregional mapping, and form the relationships this work depends on. Many of our Seed Group and Landscape Group founders started here. Thank you to every participant, and to the Design School for Regenerating Earth, our partner in the Journey. Become a member to hear first when the next cohort opens.

The Cascadian Community of Practice

The Cascadian Community of Practice is an evolving space that connects practitioners across geographies in service of our bioregion. It lives on Mighty Network and opens when you become a member. Inside are spaces for the Landscape Groups program and the Landscape Hub Cultivator cohort, gathering spaces for Guilds and topic-based practice, the Cascadia BioFi community of practice, and open spaces to meet others across the bioregion. Learn more about our community of practice.

Seed Groups and Topic Groups are next

Applications to host a Seed Group or a Topic Group are opening soon, and each group will have a home in the community of practice. A Seed Group is the open, informal way to begin place-based organizing: one person can start one, and there is no money to manage and no paperwork. A Topic Group is its topic-based parallel, gathering people around an area of regenerative practice that spans landscapes, such as water, food, energy, education, or finance.

Each group gets a dedicated space in the community of practice, a page and tag on regeneratecascadia.org so its posts and events surface under its name, an @regeneratecascadia.org email address, and support from our Community Steward. As a group grows, a Seed Group can apply to become a Landscape Group and a Topic Group can apply to become a Guild. If you have a place or a practice you would like to gather people around, write to landscapes@regeneratecascadia.org.
