On Thursday, October 22, from 6 to 8 p.m., Regenerate Cascadia is co-hosting Seattle Green Drinks at Georgetown Brewing, 5200 Denver Avenue South. The evening is free, and you can register on Luma. We are glad to take a seat at the table with neighbors who care about the same things.

What is Green Drinks?

Green Drinks is an informal, open gathering where people who work on environmental and sustainability issues meet over a drink and talk. The Seattle chapter’s October evening is its celebration of Global Donut Days, with a focus on the circular economy.

Why donut economics belongs in a bioregional conversation

Donut economics, also called doughnut economics, is a framework from the economist Kate Raworth. Picture a ring. The inner edge is the social foundation: the things everyone needs for a good life, such as food, water, housing, and a say in decisions. The outer edge is the ecological ceiling: the limits of the living planet that we cannot push past. The goal is to live in the ring between them.

A bioregion is a good place to try this, because a watershed makes the limits visible and local. You can see where the water comes from and where it goes. You can ask, in a place you know, what a good life for everyone would require and what the land and water can bear.

Who will be there

The evening is open to anyone curious about circular economy projects, bioregionalism, reuse and repair, and climate technology. It is hosted by the Seattle Donut Economics Coalition, Sustainable Seattle, Whole Washington, and Regenerate Cascadia. Come with a project, a question, or simple curiosity. The details are also on our events calendar.
