In spring 2027, the Bioregional Learning Centre and Gaia Education will offer Bioregioning in Practice 3.0, an online series open to anyone, anywhere in the world. The Learning Centre announced the series this fall in its newsletter. A start date has not been announced yet.
What bioregioning means
A bioregion is a place defined by its watersheds, ecosystems, and the cultures that have grown up in them. Bioregioning is bioregionalism as a verb: the everyday practice of getting to know the place you live and organizing to care for it. It is a skill, and like most skills it is learned by doing, with other people.
What we know about the series
This will be the third edition. The 2026 edition, Bioregioning in Practice 2.0, ran for ten weeks online, with a weekly 90-minute live session and a 60-minute group dialogue, and it offered a limited number of scholarships for participants from the Global South. We do not yet know whether 3.0 will follow the same format, so please check the organizers’ pages for details as they are published. Gaia Education’s Bioregioning in Practice page and the Bioregional Learning Centre’s website are the places to watch for dates and registration.
In person in South Devon
The Bioregional Learning Centre works in Totnes, Devon, in England, where it builds civic infrastructure in South Devon and shares what it learns as it goes. It is also planning Bioregional Learning Days in 2027, an in-person course for professionals and practitioners, with two options: July 19 to 25 or September 6 to 12. You are invited to bring your bioregion with you. You can express interest through the Centre’s contact page.
Learning from other bioregions makes us better at caring for our own. We will add the dates for Bioregioning in Practice 3.0 to our events calendar as soon as they are announced.
