WSU Climate Stewards Program: Spring 2026 Cohort

WSU Skagit County Extension / Washington Education and Climate Action Network

Skagit, Island, and Whatcom Counties, Washington Not specified Posted April 14, 2026

Description

Washington State University Extension is running the second cohort of its Climate Stewards certificate program in spring 2026. The ten-week course trains residents of Skagit, Island, and Whatcom counties in climate literacy, climate science, and climate action, equipping participants to bring practical knowledge and leadership back to their communities.

The program is a partnership between WSU Skagit County Extension and the Washington Education and Climate Action Network. It includes in-person field trips, weekly guest speakers on climate solutions, local ecosystems, and civic engagement, and a capstone individual stewardship project. The pilot cohort graduated 14 students in fall 2025.

Regenerate Whatcom landscape stewards Cory Sevin and Cindy are participating in this cohort. The program is an example of the kind of place-based education and community capacity building that aligns directly with the bioregional approach. Participants develop skills in climate communication, local adaptation planning, and community engagement that translate across fields.

More information and the application are available at the WSU Climate Stewards page. Regenerate Whatcom has published additional context on their community site.
