About Greater Victoria
The Greater Victoria landscape encompasses a distinctive ecosystem on southern Vancouver Island, shaped by its temperate climate and position within the Olympic Mountain rain shadow. This geography creates a mosaic of Garry Oak meadows, one of Canada's most endangered ecosystems, alongside culturally significant camas prairies, distinctive madrone (arbutus) forests, and rich coastal habitats.
The region's watershed networks support five species of Pacific salmon, while the surrounding Salish Sea waters are home to resident orca pods, making this a critical nexus of terrestrial and marine biodiversity.
As stewards of this landscape, the group honors its deep Indigenous history and works toward regenerative futures that weave together ecological health, community resilience, and bioregional identity.
