The Gorge is a stunning canyon carved by the Columbia River through the Cascade Range along the Oregon-Washington border. Towering over the landscape, Mount Adams and Mount Hood create a majestic natural frame, their snow-draped peaks anchoring the Gorge's rugged beauty.
The region transitions from dense, temperate rainforests in the western Gorge, where moisture-laden air fosters lush forests of Douglas fir and ferns, to arid, desert-like conditions in the east. As the Cascade Range blocks Pacific moisture, the landscape shifts to open grasslands and rocky shrublands, reflecting the Gorge's dynamic ecological gradient.
Our Vision
In seven generations, we envision a fully restored and thriving landscape where ecosystems, watersheds, and non-human communities flourish in harmony with human activities. This vision reflects a deep commitment to ecological relationship, guided by cultural knowledge-sharing and sustainable coexistence.
All river systems flow freely with clean, drinkable water. Diverse, resilient forests composed of native species support thriving wildlife in balanced ecosystems. Humans act as stewards, maintaining free-flowing rivers and healthy forests through active management and respect for natural processes, drawing on both traditional and scientific knowledge.
Our Focus
The Gorge landscape group centers its work on four priorities: cultivating community-driven project leadership, advancing regenerative agriculture and agroforestry, supporting sustainable and affordable housing using local materials, and fostering cultural hubs that preserve local traditions and connect bioregions. The group is committed to fostering the free flow of resources and information, bridging Indigenous land-based knowledge with innovative approaches to bioregional education and economic development.
