South Whidbey Prepares is a grassroots emergency preparedness initiative serving the approximately 15,000 residents of the 66 square miles south of Lagoon Point Road on Whidbey Island. Launched in April 2025 in partnership with South Whidbey Fire/EMS and Island County Emergency Management, the organization provides inspiration and resources to ensure island residents are prepared and resilient in the event of disaster. Programs include Neighborhood Champions networks, Food Resilience working groups, Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) training, and Stop the Bleed classes. The initiative is modeled after the nationally recognized Bainbridge Prepares program.
