Whidbey Environmental Action Network (WEAN) is a community-based nonprofit that protects ecosystems on Whidbey and Camano Islands through civic education, policy advocacy, and strategic litigation. First formed in the 1980s by community members protesting clear-cut logging, WEAN has defended local ecosystems in Island County for over 35 years. Current work focuses on shoreline protection, critical areas ordinances, comprehensive planning, and land use accountability. WEAN holds local jurisdictions accountable to state environmental law, monitors development proposals, and builds community capacity to participate in civic processes through workshops and multilingual outreach.
