<p>Whidbey Watershed Stewards is a nonprofit corporation that promotes nearshore and watershed health by linking water, land, wildlife, and people on Whidbey Island through education, research, and restoration. Founded in 1994 as the Chums of Maxwelton Salmon Adventure, the organization broadened its mission in 2006 to encompass all of South Whidbey's watersheds and their connection to Puget Sound. Core programs include the Maxwelton Outdoor Classroom, the Salmon in the Classroom project, spawning surveys, smolt counts, and stewardship of the Freeland Wetland Preserve. The organization has educated more than 25,000 students since its founding.</p>
