David MacLeod

I live in Washington state and consider myself a social permaculturist (exploring “invisible structures”), and am involved with the Transition Initiative movement as a co-initiator of Transition Whatcom. Transition Training in 2008 from the original UK Trainers Sophy Banks and Naresh Giangrande, and Permaculture Design Certificate earned at Inspiration Farm (where I lived for about a year and a half), 2009. I have a particular interest in what I call Integral Permaculture, as well as PatternDynamics (TM) (informed by both Integral theory and Permaculture) as a facilitator of the PatternDynamics workshop.

I was excited to organize Joe Brewer’s visit to Bellingham and Whatcom County in 2019, and am excited to to see the Bioregionalism Activation tour in 2023!

Emma Waller

I moved to Bellingham, WA from Tucson, AZ in September 2023. I have been educated in bioregional herbalism and received my permaculture design certification in the Sonoran Desert. I moved up here to be in a more abundant water environment and to be in closer relationship to the spectacular natural spaces of this area. I love to paint, draw, design, create… I have been doing this for as long as I can remember. My goal is to merge design and art with permaculture. I am also passionate about healing the body through the breath, movement, and artistic expression. My healing journey is directly reflective of my ability to contribute to healing the earth.

Sustainable Bellingham

Sustainable Bellingham is a group of individuals that aims to educate people and assist organizations that share a common concern for the health of our Bellingham and Whatcom County community.

David Ketter

I am a recently retired high school science teacher currently serving as a climate change education consultant. Have been involved in environmental, sustainability and climate change education for over 40 years. Have lived in WA for 24 years, including several years in the Port Townsend Ecovillage. Currently delving into the intersection of theories and practices related to the transformation of consciousness and existential threat. Do the facts point us to the conclusion of inevitable collapse or are quantum leaps into news ways of perceiving and relating to the world and each other possible? What do you think?

Brian Kerkvliet

As a co-steward of Inspiration Farm for the past 20 + years, Brian has a wide breadth of practical knowledge on how to partner with natural systems to bring forth stability and abundance.

Being interested in gardening and appropriate technology since I was a kid, I have followed a path towards a regenerative lifestyle. Inspired by my grandpa Jerry who ran an integrated farm on South Whidbey island. He was visited by Bill Mollison in the early 70’s. After taking many short workshops on animals, grafting, gardening etc. my wife took a PDC with the Bullock brothers which I visited often. We held a PDC in 2009 here at Inspiration Farm featuring Robin Francis and Doug Bullock as instructors among others.
Inspiration Farm is an 13 acre homestead styled farm since 1994. Integrating Biodynamic and Permaculture practices in relation to annual & perennial food systems, animal husbandry, appropriate technology, land/water nutrient management. Currently we have 1.5 acres in annual production and 2 acres of fruit, nut and other perennials. We have chickens, milk cow, goats and raise turkeys and pigs most years. Our vision at Inspiration Farm is to co-create an environment to experiment and learn methods of creative and regenerative, resilient thriving.
Biodynamic farming is a type of organic farming that incorporates an understanding of natural dynamic forces not yet fully understood by science. By working creatively with these subtle energies, we are able to significantly enhance the health of our farm affecting the quality of the soil, nutrition and flavor of the food grown.
Throughout the year we have a variety of Events, Tours and Workshops. This year we are hosting several workshops on permaculture and sustainable practices. Contact us if you would like to be notified on workshops that we will be hosting or would like to bring a group for a experiential farm tour.
