Cascadia Seed Guild – February 2024 – Emergency Seed Banks

This meeting will go through a document which is a detailed plan for the establishment of a minimum of 4 Emergency Seed Banks in the Cascadia Bioregion of the USA.  In the body of the document we link to a spreadsheet, which is a living document used to track projected and real costs.  The purpose of these Emergency Seed Banks is to improve our resilience in the face of any challenges which we may encounter.  Already we have dealt with quite devastating forest fires and the Cascadia Subduction Earthquake is a prescient fact of life.

Each of these 4 Emergency Seed Banks will be self-contained germination and growing environments where the priorities will be, in order of importance.

1. Ongoing Soil Improvement.
2. Ongoing & Exponential Seed Supply Storage & Distribution.
3. The Growing and Supply Of Highly Nutritious Food.

We will discuss how this will be achieved and all of this is based on actual operations carried out in Southern California and the Willamette Valley  in Oregon, USA over the past 10 years.  This all being achieved using Permaculture principles and minimum inputs.
