2025 Hub Funding Request

Introduction

Regenerate Cascadia has a unique opportunity to secure substantial funding from a foundation interested in providing seed funding for our organization. More than just a single request, Cascadia is a prime candidate for creating a funding ecosystem for strategic, bioregional development and change. The foundation seeks to invest in long-term relationships with recipients, viewing Regenerate Cascadia as a critical player in regenerating landscapes by connecting funders to the people dedicated to this work.

We invite the Regenerate Cascadia Community to participate in this sensemaking process to ensure their needs are included in our next strategic grant submission.

2025 Federated Grant Application

Individuals wanting to create Stewardship teams for Hubs and Guilds are welcome to apply. Each hub and guild will be invited to include 10-15 pages outlining an initial description, team bio’s, bioregional frameworks, layers of stewardship, initial portfolio’s, directories, case studies, resources, core design challenges and vision – and then specifically, strategic opportunities and tangible projects and outcomes the group may want to undertake in the next 1-3 years. We’d love to hear what groups would like to see from Bioregional Learning Centers or sites, how to do measurement, reporting and verification, and other elements the group feels it may need.

Each group will put together a year one budget of what each group wants to see funded to do this work. This will be included in our next funding request, or can be used locally for fundraising by each group.

Interest Form

If a group, please list two people who will be the initial team organizers, or attend the learning journey starting in January. These can change as new people become involved, or as the group decides.
By submitting this interest form, you agree to our Community Agreements. This includes respecting RC values and principles, our org policies as agreed by the Board of Directors of the Department of Bioregion, and to treat fellow RC community members with respect and compassion. If conflict does arise, you agree to use the conflict resolution steps if needed.

Make Sure Your Voice and Story are Included

Ultimately, we will use this proposal to identify our needs for growing Hubs and Guilds and the infrastructure necessary to create a broader Bioregional Financing Facility which will connect larger funding streams to regenerative communities and projects.

This will lead into an online Cascadia Summit for team reportbacks and planning in mid-March 2025, and an in person conference in June 2025 specifically around growing a Cascadia Bioregional Funding Ecosystem.

Proposals will include:

  1. Team and Affiliations: A description and biographies of the core team members and active participants within the hub, along with their affiliated organizations.
  2. Bioregional Address: A detailed description of the place being stewarded, incorporating bioregional language (not using nation-state frameworks) and identifying necessary physical, ecological, and cultural layers important to consider in regeneration and serve as shared “frameworks of stewardship”.
  3. Traditional Land Stewards: Identify and list the current indigenous land stewards, territories and cultural context of the place.
  4. Regenerative Project Portfolio: A narrative of ongoing regenerative work in the landscape that needs to be supported, identifying the people involved, missing voices, core design challenges, and obstacles. Who are “allies” – who are doing this work, and need to be named? What voices are missing? Through the voices of those actively engaged in this work, we will emphasize areas where support is adequate and identify where additional resources are needed to enhance and sustain these vital initiatives.
  5. Strategic Opportunities: What are strategic opportunities to help us get there? What are strategic opportunities you don’t want to see Regenerate Cascadia miss that are coming up?
  6. Bioregional Resource Hubs: What would a Bioregional Resource Hub look like in your landscape? What functions would you like it to undertake? What are potential possibilities and existing learning sites? What would you need for measurement, verification and reporting of initiatives, and how could this be stored in an informational “commons”?
  7. Landscape Vision: What activities would you like to see your hub undertake within 1-3 years? What would you like to see from an ecoregional and bioregional Regenerate Cascadia organization within 1-5 years that can support your work? What is a “500 Year” long-term vision for the regenerated area? What does a regenerative culture, economy, politics, and ecology look like and mean?
  8. Team Budget: What do you need to do the work? An initial budget for the group’s short-term requirements to support these processes in the first year, and how they would like to see it grow in the first three years. What would you need if you were to redo this process in a more in-depth, long-term way? Is your group able to assess what a “landscape budget” may look like for the long term regeneration of that area?
  9. Who are the funders in the landscape who could support this work? Who are “partners” that the group may want to directly work with?
