We’re thrilled to welcome Regenerate Skagit as a new Landscape Group in the Cascadia BioRegen Program. Stretching from the glaciers of the North Cascades to the tidal deltas of Puget Sound, the Skagit Valley is one of the most fertile and ecologically diverse landscapes in North America. This circle is cultivating a movement that reconnects people, farms, and the living land through relationship, reciprocity, and regeneration.
The group is stewarded by Genevieve Cadigan, homestead educator and systems thinker; Danielle Chevalier, organic farmer, herbalist, and founder of Fields of Recovery; Cindy Bjorklund, longtime conservationist and co-steward of Childs Creek Farm; and James Schappet, technologist and facilitator of authentic connection. Together they bring decades of experience in farming, restoration, education, and regenerative design, united by a shared commitment to strengthening local food webs and community resilience.
Regenerate Skagit envisions a landscape where small farms serve as community hubs for food, learning, and belonging. They are nurturing neighborhood networks that support each other through shared work, local harvests, and the everyday rhythms of cooperation. Each gathering, potluck, and shared project becomes a seed of cultural regeneration—rooted in connection and guided by emergent strategy.
In the year ahead, the group will continue hosting weekly community dinners that bring together farmers, neighbors, and friends to build trust and common purpose. They are mapping local regenerative projects, developing a shared communication platform for skill and resource exchange, and designing practical standards for cooperative work, housing, and food-sharing across the valley. Their work invites the question: what does it look like to meet daily needs in ways that also restore the land that meets ours?
Their values are grounded in stewardship over ownership, leadership from those most impacted, and the power of listening. Through partnerships with the Skagit Land Trust, Skagit Fisheries Enhancement Group, Master Gardeners, Viva Farms, and many others, Regenerate Skagit is weaving a living network of farms, educators, and neighbors dedicated to ecological and cultural renewal.
As part of the Regenerate Cascadia network, Regenerate Skagit can now receive tax-deductible donations, apply for grants, and collaborate with other landscape groups to bring this vision to life. Together, they are cultivating a future where food, care, and community grow from the same soil—nourishing both people and place.
