SUMMARY:Regenerative Water By Design
DESCRIPTION:(Whatcom Water Week) September 14\, 2025 from 3pm to 6pm\n\nRegenerative by Design: How Water\, Soil\, and Carbon Cycles Shape Our Hope for the Future This is the 2nd event in the Regenerate Whatcom series\, “Walking Whatcom Waters.” Step into the living Water integrated landscape designed at Inspiration Farm. \nJoin Brian Kerkvliet\, regenerative farmer\, educator\, and co-steward of this permaculture demonstration site\, for a grounded conversation at the intersection of land use\, water\, carbon sink\, food and social systems that lead to climate resilience. Learn how we can design a water integrated landscape all over Whatcom county and beyond. \nThrough the lens of permaculture\, we will explore how intentional design can restore balance to the water\, carbon and nitrogen cycles\, while producing nutritious food\, capturing and storing energy\, and building long-term ecological and community health. This session will take place on-site at Inspiration farm and include dialogue\, demonstration\, and a systems-level perspective on how to meet this moment with regeneration rather than extraction. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nBrian Kerkvliet is a permaculture practitioner and regenerative land steward with over 25 years of experience designing and managing resilient food systems. At Inspiration Farm—a working homestead and teaching site in Bellingham\, WA—Brian applies whole-systems thinking to everything from soil health and water catchment to perennial polycultures and appropriate technology. He consults widely on regenerative agriculture and permaculture design\, helping landowners and communities reimagine waste\, inputs\, and abundance through nature’s cycles. Brian’s work invites us to rethink our role\, from consumers to stewards\, at a time when such a shift has never been more urgent. \nThis is a Regenerate Whatcom event\, in association with The Whatcom Watersheds Information Network (WWIN)\, as part of Whatcom Water Week.  See more Whatcom Water Week events here.

Gain valuable experience in implementing sustainable practices directly applicable to real-world scenarios.\nEcological Design Principles: Explore the core principles of permaculture including observation\, pattern recognition and integration diverse elements to create harmonious and productive landscapes.\nRegenerative Agriculture: Learn about organic farming techniques\, agroforestry and polyculture systems that promote biodiversity and soil health. Discover ways to enhance food security while minimizing environmental impact.\nWater Management: Understand sustainable water harvesting\, storage and distribution methods. Explore ways to conserve water resources and design resilient systems in response to changing climate patterns.\nRenewable Energy: Delve into the integration of renewable energy sources within permaculture design. Explore practical applications of solar\, wind and other sustainable energy technologies.\nCommunity Building: Recognize the importance of community in regenerative living. Discuss strategies for fostering inclusive and resilient communities that support the principles of permaculture.\nBy the end of this certification course\, participants will not only gain a profound understanding of permaculture design but will also receive a globally recognized certificate that attests to the compentance in implementing sustainable practices.\nJoin us at the beautiful Whidbey Institute and become a catalyst for positive change in your life\, your community and the world.\n\nEmbrace a regenerative approach to living. \nThe Permaculture Design Certification Course (PDC) is a 72 hour minimum course. The Permaculture Certificate is globally recognized throughout the world. The holder of a Permaculture Design certificate has achieved a working understanding of ecologically based sited design\, planning and management as well as an understanding of principles\, strategies and techniques available to inspire directions toward community resiliency\, economic stability and personal growth. Full Course Description \nThe course is endorsed and recommended by the Permaculture Institute of North America. For more information check http://pina.in

SUMMARY:Water\, Earth's Blood\, The New Water Paradigm
DESCRIPTION:Learning how to form a better relationship with water in your landscape can have a profound effect on the planet and the ecosystem’s health and well-being. “Water is all Life” Water is responsible for much of the heat dynamics on earth affecting climate far more than carbon. Learn how to form a better relationship with water in your landscape in order to have a positive impact on global issues personally. \nDesigning a Water-Resilient Landscape\nOver the last several years we have witnessed increasing occurrences of droughts\, floods\, and threats of fires.\nAlthough we get over 3 feet of rain per year it is not consistent throughout the seasons. I will share with you an overview of strategies that can be implemented on your land to work with water to maximize the benefits and minimize the problems. Learning to read the land and partner with natural systems to create an abundant resilient regenerative system. Questions and answer period will follow the presentation. \nAs a co-steward of Inspiration Farm\, Brian has a wide breadth of practical knowledge on how to partner with natural systems to bring forth regenerative stability and abundance. He has three Permaculture Design certificates and is recently one of the first graduates from Zach Weiss’s Water Stories course at the professional level. He now teaches and offers consultations services for others who want to fast track resilient systems of their own. His enthusiasm for sharing this with a wider audience shows in all that he does.\nInspiration Farm is an 11 acre homestead styled farm founded in 1994. Integrating Biodynamic and Permaculture practices in relation to annual & perennial food systems\, animal husbandry\, appropriate technology\, land\, water and nutrient management. Throughout the year Inspiration Farm hosts a variety of Events\, Tours and Workshops. More info can be found at http://www.inspirationfarm.com
